A tragic Miami Bus Accident occurred on Saturday when a bus reported to be owned by Miami Bus Service Corp. in Miami crashed into an overpass at the Miami-Dade County Airport – one of the busiest airports in the United States.  The bus was reported to be carrying nearly 3 dozen Jehovah’s Witnesses – many of whom were injured and two of whom passed away.  One of the passengers died at the scene and another at the hospital shortly thereafter.  The bus was significantly too tall for the the marked 8 foot six inch overpass at the entrance to the arrival area of the airport.  What is disturbing as well is that the bus was supposed to be traveling from Sweetwater (in Miami) to a Convention Center in West Palm Beach.  The bus was not supposed to be at Miami-Dade County Airport – or any other airport for that matter.  Moreover, buses are required to use the departure area of the airport due to height limitations.  The driver of the bus apparently entered the airport unintentionally, ignored a height limit sign and was traveling faster than the posted 15mph speed limit.

In addition to the two fatalities, there are two critically injured patients at Ryder Trauma Center at Jackson Memorial Hospital and six more patients that are classified as stable.  One of the first people on the scene was an officer with the Miami-Dade Aviation Department who described the scene as “bloody”.  The police and fire rescue had to use the “Jaws of Life” to enter the bus as it was stuck under the overpass. There was also likely structural damage caused by the crash.  It appears that the bus driver was the sole cause of this collision that resulted in two Wrongful Death’s and several additional catastrophic injuries.
